Suggested activities

Ask the pupils to imagine that it is the year 2040 and themselves at that time, focusing on job they would like to have. Using the PowerPoint ask them to think about:

  • Why do I want this job?
  • What do I like about this job?
  • Why I think I would be good at this job?
  • What skills and strengths do I have that would make me good at it?

After the pupils have had time to consider the questions ask them to make a poster showing what job they would like in 2040 and including the answers to the questions about. The format/medium of the poster can be decided by you based on the resources available.

Next steps and related activities

  • You can use the posters to create a 'Wall of our Aspirations' display in the classroom, showcasing the pupils’ ambitions
  • The posters can be used to create a showcase for parents/guardians, 'Our Class in 2040'
  • Pupils can go to myworldofwork.co.uk/ican and use their Profile to record what skills they have used taking part in this lesson
