Course description
The BA (Hons) Management programme offers students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes that contribute to effective management within contemporary organisations. The programme has been designed to ensure that it is aligned with the needs of the UK, European and global labour market where a current skills gap in management has been identified. The programme contributes to the creation and maintenance of sustainable economic, social and environmental value through effective leadership and management.
In addition this new programme will help develop the range and depth of knowledge of core business concepts and skills that are a prerequisite of business school graduates entering employment in organisations, joining corporate graduate schemes, or progressing to further education.
The BA (Hons) Management programme uses a range of teaching, learning and assessment methods which ensure the learning outcomes are achieved. The programme incorporate elements of the Accelerated and Immersive Education approach that has been pioneered in other UWS Business School programmes. The AIE approach uses cloud based platforms to create an immersive and interactive learning environment that is enhance with digital technologies and accessed from anywhere to meet some of the challenges currently facing higher education.
On completion of the degree students will be prepared to seek professional body recognition.
Students are expected to become independent active learners. They will be encouraged to engage in a process of self-reflection on their learning and development. Students will be supported, through assessment in the programme, to develop a portfolio to evidence engagement in a process of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Personal Development Planning (PDP).
During First Year, students will be introduced to the concepts of management and the role of managers in dynamic business contexts.
In Second Year, students will develop in depth knowledge and understanding of operational level issues within organisations and the impact of management practice.
In Third Year, theoretical knowledge will continue to be built upon, with an emphasis on strategic level issues of organisations. Students will apply their knowledge and skills in specific organisational environments.
