Creative digital content – from film & video to podcasts to social media to marketing and advertising – is vital in helping individuals and businesses communicate their messages. This course aims to prepare you to work in a variety of creative digital media industries.
You will learn about video production, digital multimedia, online marketing, script writing, digital journalism and how to best sell your skills in a competitive global digital economy.
We are partnering with West Lothian employers and organisations to offer real-world learning opportunities to demonstrate your skills development and aid your understanding of how to apply your learning.
In the final part of the course you will undertake a creative graded Unit project of your own choosing, where you will plan, produce and evaluate your work, and showcase your year’s work in an end-of-year event.
Successful completion of the course results in the award of an HNC in Creative Industries: Media and Communication.

All our students develop a portfolio of creative digital work throughout the course by working with real-world clients, which they then use to demonstrate their abilities to prospective employers, or as the basis for applications to further study at HND or degree level.
In previous years, many of our students have gone on to success at honours degree level at university, and/or have gained employment working in broadcasting and other creative industries in the UK and in the USA.
Learning outcome
Education: On achievement of this course, you will can to progress into HND or BA (Hons) programmes in Film & Media, Digital Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations, TV & Radio Production, Journalism, or Media Studies, at many Scottish universities such as University of Stirling, Napier University, and Queen Margaret University.
Employment: You may gain employment at entry level in: Marketing, Market Research, Public Relations, Events Management, Radio Production, Digital Marketing, Journalism, Broadcast TV production and many other UK Creative Industries.
Entry requirements
- Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative & Digital Media, or in a related subject
- Work experience may allow entry, depending on interview.
