Course description

NC Engineering Systems will provide knowledge on how modern engineering systems work. From mechanical engineering, to electrics, electronics and programmable control, the course helps you to understand how all of these individual parts join together to give a complete working system.

The course includes:

  • Fundamentals of electrical systems
  • Mechanical fundamentals
  • Material science
  • CAD
  • Mathematics
  • Control systems and transducers.
  • You will also have some ‘hands on’ classes in the engineering workshop.

    You should choose this course as it can provide a starting point in your engineering career. This course will introduce you to a variety of different engineering disciplines; including mechanical, electronics and electrical engineering.

    Learning outcome

    Education: The course can take you onto a level 6 course or potentially right into our HNC in Engineering Systems. Students have previously progressed onto further study at Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde University (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)

    Employment: Engineering apprenticeship or employment in the manufacturing or service sector. Past students have found employment with companies such as Screwfix and O2.

    Entry requirements

  • Student must be qualified to at least National 4 (Intermediate 1) in mathematics
  • Mature applicants without the necessary minimum qualifications will be considered on an individual basis
  • If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
