Course details

Course description

This course is ideal for anyone who sees themselves working with children and young people in a caring or education setting. It will give you the skills and knowledge to develop your career as well as first hand practical experience of working with children and young people. You’ll close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, and find out more about the world of work.

The course will help you develop the skills and knowledge to work towards an SVQ 2 and to enter a career in children’s social services. It will also help you gain the core units of the Modern Apprenticeship (MA) at SVQ level 2 in social services children and young people, which means you’ll have fewer units to complete if you go on to the MA course.

Units covered on the course include:

  • Safeguarding of Children and Young People
  • Play for Children and Young People
  • Communication with Children and Young People
  • Development of Children and Young People
  • Promote the Wellbeing and Safety of Children and Young People
  • Why choose this course

You’ll learn by doing practical activities and by working directly with employers through industry talks, visits and placements.
