Course description

This course is for students who want to develop their skills and knowledge with a view to a career in engineering, the advanced manufacturing sector and engineering-related industries. You’ll close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, and find out more about the world of work.

The course covers theory, practice and includes work experience. Subjects include:

  • Engineering systems
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Manufacturing engineering

    You’ll learn through practical activities and have direct contact with employers, through talks, visits and work placements.

    Learning outcome

    Education: Modern Apprenticeship (Fast Track), HNC or HND in engineering, or another related subject, articulation into university to study an engineering related subject

    Employment: within an engineering role across areas such as aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering

    Entry requirements

  • Achieved National 5, preferably in English, maths, craft design and technology and/or science
  • In 6th year of school on starting the course (also open to S5 student applications depending on circumstances)
  • Interested in learning about the industry
  • Capable of working at level 6 (Higher)
  • Excellent school attendance record
