Course description

The Level 4 Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Playwork at SCQF level 9 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job related skills in their particular area of work.

This qualification has been designed in partnership/jointly awarded with SkillsActive — the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure, Learning, and Wellbeing — to ensure its relevancy to the sector.

This qualification covers areas such as

  • managing operational plans for play provision
  • leading practice that promotes the safeguarding of children and young people
  • managing and enhancing internal and external relationships specific to playwork

    Upon successful completion, learners will gain a recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully.

    As assessment is normally carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work and allows candidates to generate evidence based on the actual work they are carrying out.

    You will be assigned a highly experienced assessor to work with you on an individual basis. This assessor will support you build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your knowledge and competence in this sector.

    Learning outcome

    Candidates could progress from the Level 4 SVQ in Playwork at SCQF level 9 to an HND in Childhood Practice.

    The progression route for each candidate will depend on their job role and level of responsibility.

    Entry requirements

  • Candidates must be in a workplace where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow then to gather the required evidence.
  • No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although a minimum of six months experience in this sector is required.
  • If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
