Course description

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Management at SCQF level 9 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise. It has been developed to support those working as middle managers.
This qualification is jointly awarded with the Chartered Institute of Management (CMI). Candidates who are registered for SVQ in Management at SCQF level 9 (GM27 24) are able to take advantage of 12 months free studying membership of CMI.

Candidates will complete five mandatory units including managing self and personal skills, providing direction and using resources. Three further units from a wide range of optional units allowing flexibility and the ability to tailor the qualification to the needs of the employee and the organisation.

The course is delivered using a blended learning approach utilising a sector leading innovative approach incorporating:

  • Work-based assignments
  • Online learning supported by dedicated knowledge resource packs

    As assessment is normally carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work and allows candidates to generate evidence based on the actual work they are carrying out.
    You will be assigned a highly experienced assessor to work with you on an individual basis. This assessor will support you build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your knowledge and competence in this sector.

    Learning outcome

    Candidates can progress from the Level 4 SVQ Management at SCQF level 9 third year BA in Business Management. The progression route for each candidate will depend on their job role and level of responsibility.
