If you are looking to pursue a career in a health profession which is both challenging and rewarding then this course is for you. You may be a school leaver who as yet, does not have the required entry qualifications to go direct to University. The course is a fulltime course where you maybe able to top up your qualifications to make an application through UCAS to progress onto the first year of a Nursing degree or onto HNC Healthcare Practice which could lead to an Allied Health Profession related degree.

The course involves essays, reports, presentations and projects based on course content, as well as work experience.
Why choose this courseYou will learn about best practice in health and social care settings and get the chance to progress to further study or work. Please note that it may be a requirement to work 12-hour shifts on your work experience so you need to be available to do this.
Learning outcome
Education: Progress onto a relevant HNC.
Alternatively, you may progress to University depending on your existing qualifications to study Nursing. Please note that this course would not normally give you access to Midwifery or Child Health Degrees.
Employment: Support worker or similar role in health and social care settings. Previous students have found employment within a range of health and social care organisations.
Entry requirements
If your aim is to progress directly to University to study Nursing in addition to the above you would require the following:
- A minimum of 1 Higher and National 5 Maths (this doesn’t guarantee entry)
If you can demonstrate by recent relevant successful study at level 5 your ability to work at level 6 your application may be considered
Your personal statement on your application should demonstrate the following: your skills and qualities and any relevant experience. You should also include the field of Nursing or the Allied Health Profession you want to progress into and your reasons for applying for the course
Please note this course is to prepare you for a career in health and social care
If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
