Course description

This course will increase your competence in financial and management accounting. It will help you gain relevant employment and/or progress to HND or degree-level study.

The course includes aspects of financial and management accounting, cost accounting, SAGE accounting, economics, information technology and business law.

Learning outcome

Education: HND accounting at West Lothian College or university. The course allows direct entry to Heriot Watt University to second year on the MA in accountancy and finance.

Employment: posts such as trainee accountant or accounts technician and other roles within accounting/business. Previous students have found employment with West Lothian Council,and Charles River Labs.

Entry requirements

  • Pass at C grade or above in a relevant Higher such as business management, maths or accounting or
  • Relevant group award at National 5/Intermediate 2 or NC Accounting or
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in a related subject
  • Those with relevant work experience should apply and will be assessed at interview
  • Internal candidates – completion of all course units (NC accounting level 5/business management level 6)
  • If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
