Course description

Reproductive biology aims to understand the scientific principles that govern reproduction in humans and other mammals.

You will study the requirements for reproduction, including:

* the production of sufficient numbers of viable gametes

* fertilisation

* implantation in a receptive uterus

* formation of a placenta that can sustain and nurture a baby

* delivery at full term

Advances in this field provided the knowledge behind assisted conception. It has also revolutionised reproductive medicine and veterinary practice.

Entry requirements

Scottish Higher minimum entry requirements: A,A,B,B

AABB by the end of S5 or AAAB by end of S6. BBB must be achieved in one year of S4-S6. Required subjects: Highers: Biology and Chemistry at B. Higher Mathematics or Physics and Advanced Higher Biology and Chemistry are recommended. National 5s: Mathematics at B and English at C.
