Course description
We teach archives by focusing on the core principles, theory, and practice that underpin this discipline.
Our focus is very much on a mix of the theoretical and the practical. You must be working or volunteering in an appropriate professional environment both prior to and throughout your studies so you can apply what you are learning.
You will gain knowledge of the management of archives and the ability to apply this knowledge in the public sector or in commercial or specialist environments.
Topics covered include:
the services users require and how we can facilitate and increase use
the best ways to promote our collections, looking at websites, digitisation, outreach, publicity, and educational activities
threats to the preservation of archives and practical ways in which these can be removed

Entry requirements
Applications for Certificate programmes and modules via CPD are welcome from all candidates although we may discuss experience and suitability upon application. You'll need to be be employed or active as a volunteer in a professional archive for a minimum of half a day per week and have appropriate prior experience.
