Mechanical Engineering with Biomechanics
Master of Engineering (with Honours) - MEng (Hon)University of Aberdeen
Course details
Course description
Mechanical engineering is concerned with the creative and imaginative use of principles and science to shape the world around us, through the development of new materials, technologies, processes and products. Biomechanical engineering combines mechanical engineering fundamentals with biological systems to develop technology that improves healthcare and people's quality of life.
Mechanical Engineers design and develop everything that moves or has moving parts, ranging from spacecraft and aeroplanes to racing cars, from household goods like refrigerators to the small motors that turn a DVD in a DVD player, from robotic control of machinery to nanotechnologies, from mechanical hearts and artificial limbs to fitness machines, and from oil and gas exploration and production technologies to wind turbines.
On this 5 year integrated MEng programme, you will learn how to apply the core mechanical engineering skills and knowledge to medical and biological problems. You will study various subjects including electronics, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, and engineering materials along with biomaterials and biomechanics, so that you can use the latest software and models to design, develop and test healthcare equipment.
Subjects
- Mechanical engineering
- Engineering and production
- Biomechanics
Entry requirements
Scottish Higher minimum entry requirements: A,A,B,B
Applicants who achieve AABB or better over S4 and S5 are likely to be made an offer of admission. This may be unconditional or conditional, depending upon academic profile. Good performance in additional Highers / Advanced Highers may be required. Note: we do not double count a Higher and Advanced Higher in the same subject, but we do consider that a B at Adv Higher is equivalent to an A grade at Higher.
