Course description

Anthropology and Politics at Aberdeen is a great partnership. Human behaviour, culture, traditions, beliefs and attitudes are the foundations of politics and you will gain added perspective and understanding of the role that human culture and society plays in political thinking and activity at local, national, regional and global level. You will gain the unique insight, perspective and skills to open up a world of very exciting career options.

Anthropology – for which we boast 100% student satisfaction – will give you a thorough grounding in humanity, the differences in human cultures and communities and how they have developed. You will gain insight into human behaviours, beliefs and attitudes all over the world, exploring connections between aspects of life such as family, economics, politics and religion. Politics will provide you with insights at a national, European and global level, taught by international experts in a dynamic research environment and placing you at the forefront of contemporary debate and history. You will study nationalism and concepts of democracy, voting behaviour, different political systems and how policy is made and implemented.

You will be taught by internationally renowned academics, regularly appearing as experts in the media on events unfolding in the world today, analysing and explaining from their own area of expertise and research. You will gain the perfect foundation for a wide range of careers, including local and national government, politics and journalism, media, global business, NGOs and international development.

Entry requirements

Scottish Higher minimum entry requirements: A,A,B,B

Applicants who achieve AABB or better over S4 and S5 are likely to be made an offer of admission. This may be unconditional or it may be conditional, dependent upon academic profile. Good performance in additional Highers / Advanced Highers may be required. Note: we do not double count a Higher and Advanced Higher in the same subject, but we do consider that a B at Adv Higher is equivalent to an A grade at Higher. National 5 English at minimum grade C

Scottish Advanced Higher minimum entry requirements: A,B,B

Second year entry may be possible in most school based subjects. A minimum of ABB overall in Adv Higher is required. Adv Higher at A in the subject selected for Single Honours or AB in the subject selected for Joint Honours.
