Course description
If you want to become a speech and language therapist, this course could open up a fascinating new career path for you. It is the only postgraduate pre-registration course in speech and language therapy offered in Scotland.
As a speech and language therapist you will provide life-changing treatment, support and care for children and adults who have difficulties communicating and/or eating, drinking and swallowing. It can be a very varied and deeply rewarding career. This course will enable you to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and to practise as a speech and language therapist in the UK.
Subjects
- Speech therapy
Entry requirements
Applicants must have equivalent to at least a UK 2:1 Honours Degree to be considered for the course. We look for applicants to have completed work experience with people who have speech or communication impairments. This could be shadowing an SLT, volunteering with the Stroke Association or a stammering group, working with autistic children or alongside the elderly who have speech/communication difficulties. There is no specific field which we would prioritise, however, due to the competitive nature of the course we would recommend that applicants try and gain experience in more than one field as this will show that they have a greater understanding of speech and language therapy as a whole.
