According to the Health and Safety Executive, workplace injuries and ill-health cost UK businesses approximately £16.2 billion per year. The NEBOSH HSW Award is the ideal solution for anyone who needs to understand the principles of health and safety in the workplace. Developing these skills will make a real difference in the workplace. You will have the knowledge, understanding and skills to help protect the health and safety of all workers. You will also be able help your employer to comply with the law and good practice, as well as help them avoid the huge costs from incidents and ill health. This qualification is designed for anyone (managers, supervisors and workers) in any type of Organisation. It’s ideal for anyone who needs a broad understanding of the principles of health and safety and will enable you to manage day-to-day risks effectively. If you later decide to pursue a career in Health and Safety, this course will provide an essential foundation course and it can be used as an entry qualification to the National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award looks at everyday solutions for general workplace health and safety issues. Through your studies, you will gain knowledge and practical health and safety skills. This will enable you to: understand why health and safety needs to be managed, ensuring effective processes are in place inspect the workplace, recognising common hazards, evaluating risk, recommending controls measures and assigning actions understand why incidents happen and how to investigate them. Assessment After completing the course, you will be required to register for the exam HSA1 which is a workplace health and safety review that should take approximately 3 hours to complete. This assessment is typically taken in the workplace and is designed to test your ability to put into practice the knowledge you have developed. Exam registration is included in your course fee but NEBOSH do charge for resits. This course is completed online with tutor support, so students will require access to IT equipment and the internet to complete the course. This course will require you to manage your workload independently. Once enrolled you will be provided with email and phone contact details for your tutor who will contact you regularly to monitor your progress and learning. You will have access to all the student support online services available via the college website. Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. It is recommended that learners have a suitable standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or higher. There is no additional charge for exams, registration is included in the price of the course. There is an additional charge for any resits that may be required, please check the NEBOSH website for current fees.
