The IAB Level 1 Award in Manual Bookkeeping (QCF) is broadly comparable to SCQF Level 4 in Scotland and will provide you with essential book keeping skills. The course is accredited by the International Association of Book Keepers (IAB) and covers double entry or manual book keeping systems, serving as a valuable introduction to the practical elements of financial record keeping. The course is aimed at those who wish to begin their studies of bookkeeping, from a point of no previous knowledge or experience.   It is also suitable for those who have some bookkeeping knowledge and skills and want to formalise their competence by gaining a recognised accredited qualification in bookkeeping.  It could be used as a foundation for learners considering a career change, training to become a self-employed practitioner or small business owners wanting an introduction to the function of bookkeeping with a view of keeping financial records for their business.  What you will experience You will learn how to assess your competence in carrying out a range of basic day-to-day bookkeeping routines and activities using a single entry manual bookkeeping system. This includes recording business transactions, using the journal, preparing a trial balance, petty cash and bank reconciliations as well as developing an understanding of the basics of VAT.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However it is recommended that prospective candidates will already have basic skills in both numeracy and literacy prior to embarking on a course of study for this qualification. The knowledge test and assignments for this course are provided online so students will need internet access and IT equipment to complete the course.  Alternatively, a time slot can be booked at our assessment centre.
