National 4 Mathematics Unit 4: Value Added Unit (Mathematics Test)

Vocational
North East Scotland College

Course details

Course description

This Unit forms part of the National 4 Mathematics Course. The National 4 qualification enables learners to select and apply straightforward mathematical skills in a variety of mathematical and real-life situations. Learners interpret, communicate and manage information in mathematical form. This Unit is the Added Value Unit of the National 4 Mathematics course, and aims to enable the learner to provide evidence of added value for the National 4 Mathematics Course through successful completion of a test. The test will allow students to demonstrate the breadth of their knowledge. In the National 4 Mathematics Course, the Added Value Unit will focus on breadth and challenge, and the learner will draw on and apply the skills they have learned across the other three Units.  As an aid to meeting the aims of the course, skills in using a calculator will be developed. The National 4 Maths qualification is broken down into four units. Students must complete all four units successfully to obtain their National 4 Mathematics qualification.

Entry requirements

You will require completion of a National 3 Lifeskills Mathematics Course, relevant component units or an equivalent course.  This course requires you to manage your workload independently, and will involve attendance at a campus or centre - often for assessment purposes only. H22h 74 – Mathematics Test This is the Added Value Unit of the National 4 Mathematics Course. The general aim of this Unit is to enable the learner to provide evidence of added value for the National 4 Mathematics Course through the successful completion of a test which will allow the learner to demonstrate breadth and challenge. Breadth and challenge will be demonstrated through the use and integration of mathematical ideas and strategies linked to straightforward mathematical expressions, formulae and relationships. This will include the application of algebraic, geometric, trigonometric, statistical and reasoning skills. Numerical skills underpin all aspects of the Course, and the ability to use these without the aid of a calculator will also be assessed. Outcome 1 1 Apply mathematical skills in straightforward contexts by: 1.1 Using operational and reasoning skills to determine solutions in mathematical or real-life situation.
