Course description
An in-depth introduction to working in the motor vehicle industry.
This City and Guilds course will introduce you to the basic skills required for employment in the automotive maintenance sector.The course allows for extensive hands-on work, and will allow you to develop confidence and competence when it comes to problem solving, teamwork and commercial awareness – key transferrable skills for progressing towards further study or employment. You will:
You will be introduced to workshop safety, and the tools and equipment used in the industry. You will then progress to developing skills in the repair and maintenance of vehicles through learning about the principles of engine components and operation for steering, breaking and suspension systems. Teaching will take the form of theory, as well as a range of practical activities.
You will participate in the following units:
The programme places an emphasis on learning by doing, so most of the work you will be doing to achieve the units is practical. You will be taught in Vehicle Maintenance Workshops and classrooms at either the Fraserburgh Campus or Aberdeen Altens Campus, and throughout the course you will be given the opportunity to review and identify how your skills are developing.
You will be expected to demonstrate:
To achieve the full qualification you must attend regularly and successfully complete units. You will be assessed through a combination of practical assignments and oral knowledge tests. Upon successful completion of all relevant elements you will receive a City and Guild Certificate evidencing your learning.
What you will needFor all automotive courses it is necessary to provide and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The PPE required includes wearing the appropriate clothing, including boiler suit, safety glasses and safety footwear, i.e. boots or shoes with steel toe caps.
You will not be allowed into the workshops without PPE, and will be returned to school and marked absent if you arrive without it.
