Exploring the impact and key issues surrounding depression.

Depression and anxiety affect almost one in five UK adults today. This number is possibly higher, but many people are embarrassed to come forward due to the lack of understanding of the seriousness of anxiety and depression.

This short, auto-marked programme will give you the knowledge required to understand the impact and key issues surrounding depression and anxiety. It is completed online with auto-marked assessments, and can be completed in your own time at a pace that suits you. It will also act as a valuable addition to your CV, highlighting your commitment to mental health awareness.

What you will experience

This course has six main sections:

Section 1: The meaning of ‘depression’
Learners will start to understand the difference between ‘feeling low’ and clinical depression, whilst examining some of the key facts about depression.

Section 2: The cause of depression
In this section, learners will cover the causes and symptoms of depression, and will also look at individual experiences and case studies of those who have experienced the condition.

Section 3: The effects of psychotic depression
In this section, learners will learn exactly what psychotic depression is, and develop the skills required to identify when someone is suffering from it. This section also begins to explore the ways in which to deal with the condition.

Section 4: Effects on the individual, family and friends
Learners will study how depression affects an individual’s life, as well as he life of their family and close friends.

Section 5: How the demands of daily life can maintain depression
This section covers the demands of modern day life, and how depression can manifest itself in various forms. Learners will also be introduced to techniques in managing related pressures and demands.

Section 6: Depression management and support
Learners will study possible treatments for depression, and the local resources available to help those suffering from depression and psychotic depression.
