Course description
Participate in a multi-disciplinary course that will provide you with a practical introduction to Automotive, Construction and Engineering.
This course is aimed at pupils who are interested in working in the construction, automotive or engineering industries, and recognises that many will not have the experience or the knowledge of the different trades to be able to make an informed choice about which area they would like to apply to with a view to College courses or to employment. Because of this, the course involves a number of short units across a wide range of disciplines. This allows pupils to try out and have a go at developing their skills, perhaps finding one for which they have a particular interest or aptitude.
The skills developed will allow you to consider undertaking additional training/qualifications when you leave school, or consider suitable employment via a Modern Apprenticeship programme. During the course you will:
Teaching will take the form of practical, hands–on activities in a workshop environment. Most classes will take place in a workshop at the College’s Fraserburgh or Aberdeen Altens Campus. The courses will vary slightly in the two campuses depending on which crafts/skills are available.
The courses are expected to include seven to ten different disciplines. These may include: Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Construction (e.g. Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing).
Throughout the course you will be offered an opportunity to review and identify how your skills are developing. You will be expected to demonstrate:
You will be expected to attend regularly and take an active part in all the activities.
Pupils will be awarded a College Certificate for each successfully completed unit. There is no group award attached to this course.
What you will needYou will be required to provide and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing, including a boiler suit, safety glasses and safety footwear, such as boots or shoes with steel toe caps.
For all construction and engineering courses it is necessary to wear PPE. You are not allowed into the workshops without PPE and will be returned to school and marked absent if you arrive without it.
