Course description

This MCA approved course is for seafarers who have designated security duties on board a merchant ship under the Ship Security Plan (SSP) which is required to comply with the International Ship and Port Facilities Security (IPSP) Code.

This one day Proficiency in Designated Security Duties PDSD course will provide those undertaking designated security duties on board ship with the essential training, education, understanding and proficiency requirements set out in the STCW Code.

What you will experience
  • Introduction to ship security including roles and responsibilities
  • Security risks to the ship, personnel, cargo and operations
  • Capabilities and limitations of security methods, equipment and systems
  • Maintenance of measures within the ship security plan
  • Effectiveness of security arrangements, procedures and equipment at the three security levels

    Entry requirements

    There are no formal entrance requirements. However this course is designed primarily for ship-board watch keepers (bridge and gangway watch) and private security personnel engaged in ship security duties.
