Course description

This course provides learners with an industry recognised qualification and the knowledge and skills necessary to work as a Soft Tissue Therapist.

This course has been designed for those who want to perform hands-on treatments with people who participate in sport. The course focuses heavily on sports massage, allowing learners to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work as a Soft Tissue Therapist whilst working towards an industry-recognised qualification.

  • What you will need

    All learners must complete a PVG check via the College. Where one already exists, it must be updated for College use.

    A list of materials will be sent to you before the start of the course.

    You will be required to purchase a NESCol Sport kit to be worn in all practical classes. In non-practical subjects, students may wear smart but casual clothes but no football colours are permitted in any environment.

    Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

    This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.

    Learning outcome

    HNC Soft Tissue Therapy, endorsed by the Scottish Massage Association (SMA).

    Progression:

    The course prepares those who wish to progress to an HND in Sport Therapy, a degree in Sport Therapy or another higher education award in a related field.

    Employment:

    After this course, you could find employment as a Soft Tissue Therapist.

    Entry requirements

    • Highers: a minimum of two in subjects such as Maths, English, Science, or Physical Education at grade C or above
    • Completion of Level 3 Sport and Exercise Massage or Level 3 Sport courses
    • SCQF Level 6 in appropriate subject area
    • Industry-based experience would also be considered upon interview for those without previous qualification
