Course description

Combining key theoretical knowledge with the interpersonal skills and values required to work in social services.

We are looking for highly motivated, well-organised, disciplined and caring individuals whose goal it is to work in community, private or public services that support the most vulnerable members of our society to lead a fulfilled and independent life.

Those interested in this course should be ready for a blended learning approach that includes independent study, group work, research activities and presentation skills.

This course enables students to integrate knowledge, theory and practice to gain employment in a social care role, or to progress to further study at university degree level in order to embark on a career in Social work.

    This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.

    Entry requirements

    • Two Higher qualifications at Grade C or above (preferably including Higher English) and Maths, Numeracy or equivalent at National 5 (Grade C or above). If not held at Higher, English at National 5 is essential
    • Alternatively applicants should have a relevant qualification at SCQF Level 6, e.g. Health or Social Care or Access to Social Services (SWAP).
    • It is desirable that applicants have completed a minimum of 80 hours work or voluntary experience within a social care setting
    • A genuine interest in working with people and good communication skills are essential, and references may be required
    • A clear PVG will be required prior to placement allocation. This will be organised by the College, however you will have to pay for the PVG.
