Course description

Introducing you to practical electrical/electronic installation, maintenance and testing skills.

This course is aimed at school leavers as well as those returning to full-time education.

The primary focus of this qualification is to provide practical vocational based training in:

  • Wiring and testing electrical circuits and programmable controller systems
  • Maintenance of electrical equipment systems
  • Electronic assembly and testing
  • Mathematics project
  • At Fraserburgh

    The primary focus of this qualification is to provide practical vocational based training in:

  • Electrical Installation (BS 7671 standards)
  • Electrical Equipment Maintenance
  • Electronic Assembly and Testing
  • Programmable Logic Controllers – inclusive of basic Automation
  • Forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems.

  • Electrical Engineering - NC (SCQF Level 6)
  • Employment:

    This course forms the ‘Foundation phase’ of a Modern Apprenticeship. On successful completion, candidates may gain employment in industry through SECTT or SEMTA MA programmes to become a fully qualified electrician. Students may progress to a higher level Electrical Engineering course and build on theoretical knowledge to gain employment as a skilled craftsperson or operative in a range of electrical industries.

    Entry requirements

    A minimum of a pass at National 4 mathematics and a good understanding of English are required for entrance to this course.

    There may also be a short practical test carried out at the time of interview.
