Course description
Develop cooking and serving skills suited to cafe, bistro or contract catering environments within the hospitality industry.
This course has been devised to build essential skills required within a cafe, bistro and contract catering setting.
You will develop both practical & theoretical knowledge and skills whilst working in a kitchen and counter service area. Assist in the planning, preparation and service of food & drinks that you produce. You will also get an introduction to customer service, food hygiene and health & safety so you can apply these in your practical activities.
What you will experienceThe course includes the following units:
This course is very hands-on, with a lot of time spent in the training kitchen & Bistro. You will also spend time serving food and drink, as well as dealing with customers.
What you will needAll students are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing suitable for the area in which you will be working. A list of materials/uniform required will be sent to you before the start of the course.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.
This may be funded or part-funded by a bursary, if you are eligible to receive one.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course although a desire to work within the hospitality industry is important.
You need to be willing to work as part of a team.
Whilst preparing and delivering great food and drink service, being able to communicate is also an important skill.
