Course description

This advanced course will strengthen your skills and understanding when it comes to Spreadsheets 2016.

The European Computer Driving Licence has recently rebranded and is known as the International Certification of Digital Literacy – ICDL for short.

It is the internationally recognised qualification for computer users, and is widely recognised by employers as proof of ability and competence when working with IT.

Advanced ICDL Spreadsheets (Module AM4) is a high-level certification programme which presents candidates with the opportunity to bring their spreadsheet skills to an expert level. Completion of this module will enable candidates to master the more advanced functions of spreadsheet applications, enabling them to produce more sophisticated reports, and to perform complex mathematical and statistical calculations, thus saving time and improving productivity in the completion of tasks. It has been specifically designed to:

  • Allow users to become more confident, efficient and effective in using a spreadsheet application
  • Proves mastery of the application
  • Enable users to produce better reports with deeper data analysis
  • Improves user’s productivity
  • This Advanced ICDL course is a Level 3 qualification (QCF) – roughly equivalent to SCQF Level 6 in Scotland – and is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). Please note that although there are four Advanced ICDL Modules and these can enrolled on, completed and certified independently of each other, you only need to complete all four modules if you choose to.

    What you will experience

    This course is highly comprehensive, and has been developed with input from computer users, subject matter experts and practising computer professionals from all over the world – this ensures relevance and accuracy of module content. You will explore a range of key aspects relating to spreadsheets, including:

  • Applying advanced formatting options such as conditional formatting and customised number formatting, and how to handle worksheets
  • Using functions such as those associated with logical, statistical, financial and mathematical operations
  • Creating charts and applying advanced chart formatting features
  • Working with tables and lists to analyse, filter and sort data. Create and use scenarios
  • Validating and auditing spreadsheet data
  • Enhancing productivity by working with named cell ranges, macros and templates
  • Using linking, embedding and importing features to integrate data
  • Collaborating on and reviewing spreadsheets
  • Applying spreadsheet security features
  • Upon completion of this course you should be able to maximise the Microsoft Excel package using skills and knowledge that will set you apart in today’s competitive job market.
