Course description
This course is perfect for those who wish to work in the areas of fitness, health and exercise instruction.
If you wish to work in the areas of fitness, health and exercise instruction then this course is the perfect option. You will study a wide variety of subjects spanning the whole spectrum of sport science and fitness leadership, as well as a PDA in Personal Training.
You will develop a wide range of fitness leadership and exercise prescription skills whilst building a good understanding of the key underpinning scientific principles that support practical performance.
This course provides the opportunity to gain membership with Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). CIMSPA is the professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector, offering Scottish Colleges support with student and practitioner membership alongside partnership opportunities. CIMSPA has identified the standards for professional excellence and best practice in the sport and physical activity sector, members and partners are recognised for upholding and delivering these standards.
What you will experienceAll students must complete a PVG check via the College. Where one already exists, it must be updated for College use.
It is also mandatory for all students to have the relevant uniform to represent the College in any offsite and practical activity.
You will be required to purchase a NESCol Sport kit to be worn in all practical classes. In non-practical subjects, students may wear smart but casual clothes but no football colours are permitted in any environment.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.
If you do not already own a suitable device you can apply for a student loan from SAAS, if eligible, to fund the cost of purchasing a device.

UniversityStudents may successfully progress to related employment.
Entry requirements
- Minimum of two Highers (one must be PE and the other in a relevant subject such as a science, Maths or English) at Grade C or above and successful interview
Or
- Completion of an NPA in Exercise Leadership plus one additional higher would also be considered
Or
- NCFE Level 3 Sport or equivalent
Industry-based experience would also be considered upon interview for those without previous qualifications.
