Course description
Learn about fundamental economic issues, with an emphasis on the business environment.
This Unit is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills for further study or employment in an administrative or IT environment. It is an optional Unit within HNC/HND Administration and Information Technology or HNC Accounting course, but is also included within other HN Group Awards and can be taken as a stand-alone Unit. It will introduce you to fundamental issues in economics with a particular emphasis on the business environment. For more information please visit the SQA website.

What you will experienceYou will learn about basic economic problems, and how the consumer and other economic agents can address these problems. You will also learn about the operation of markets and what can be done to help avoid market failure, as well as national income and its importance in government policy and the Keynesian model of the circular flow of income. It would be beneficial for candidates to have competence in numeracy and communication. This may be demonstrated by possession of Core Skill Numeracy at SCQF Level 4 and/or the Core Skill Communication at SCQF level 5 (or equivalent).
