Course description

Helping young people with additional needs to gain skills and experience for progressing to employment.

DFN Project SEARCH is a one-year internship programme, based on an international model which originated in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in the USA, supporting young people with additional needs to gain skills and experience to go on to employment.

It is a collaborative project between the University of Aberdeen, North East Scotland College, and Values Into Action Scotland (VIAS). It is also supported by Skills Development Scotland.

The overall aim of the project is to increase the number of people with learning disabilities who successfully secure employment.

This is a one-year programme which sees participants, known as interns, who are registered students at North East Scotland College, spend time completing a City and Guilds qualification as well as embarking on a rotation of three work placements in various roles and departments within the University.

Interns will also complete a period of orientation prior to the start of the course to familiarise them with the programme and the University.

Whether you wish to progress in your studies or enter the world of work, North East Scotland College has excellent progression opportunities, with links to eight universities across Scotland and great relationships with industry employers.
