Course description

This course develops an advanced Art and Design Portfolio, which encourages students to explore Art and Design in contemporary practice and to make personal choices for their own direction in the world of Art and Design.

This course provides a broad visual education in Contemporary Art Practice to develop skills, knowledge and an awareness of specialist art & design disciplines. You will have the opportunity to develop individual practice in relation to personal interests.

This will be enhanced by historical and contextual studies, so that you can explore the work of professional artists to link to your individual practice. You will be able to work individually and in teams supported by group discussion, personal and individual support. This could link to client projects and public art experiences and exhibitions.

What you will experience

You will be encouraged to research, develop, contextualise and evaluate your ideas and practice in response to your art and design subject choices.

  • Observational and Development Drawing
  • Contemporary Art & Design Practice in 2D and 3D
  • Understanding the Contemporary Art and Design Process
  • Public Art – Sculpture and 3D
  • Contemporary Digital Art
  • Painting, Printing and Mixed Media options in year 2
  • Contemporary Art Project
  • Contemporary Art Professional Practice and Exhibition studies

    Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

    This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.

    Progress from Art & Design level 6 college course.

    Alternatively, a minimum of one Higher pass and a portfolio review (information on portfolio requirements will be sent after application).

    A portfolio of work from work/practice may also be accepted.
