Course description

Gain a good base knowledge of accounting for businesses.

This is a mandatory Unit within HNC/HND Business Group Award, may be an optional part of other HN group awards or taken as a stand alone HN Unit. It will allow you to develop the skills required to prepare basic financial and management accounting reports and, in addition, will also develop the skills, knowledge and understanding you need to interpret and use financial information for decision making. Credit points and level: 2 HN credits at SCQF level 7: (16 SCQF credit points at SCQF level 7)

What you will experience

You will learn all about the preparation and use of accounting information within a business organisation. On completion of the Unit, you should be able to:

  • Prepare final accounts of a limited company, for internal users
  • Prepare cash budgets and calculate break even point
  • Identify the users of financial information and the purposes for which they require the information
  • Describe the various sources of finance available to an organisation
  • Analyse the performance and financial position of a business

    Candidates would normally be expected to be competent in numeracy and communication at SCQF level 5 or have similar qualifications or experience.
