Course description
Fundamentals of Sports Coaching and Fitness (Level 5) prepares you to work in the Sport, Fitness and Active Leisure industry at a basic level or to continue your studies.
You will play and coach a wide variety of indoor and outdoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, swimming, badminton, gymnastics, football, rugby and athletics.
Throughout your studies, you will gain various recognised National Governing Body awards with specific sports.
While studying Fundamentals of Sports Coaching and Fitness (Level 5), you may cover a variety of theoretical and practical sports and exercise subjects from the following:
- National Governing Body Awards in various sports
- Leading sporting activities
- Developing volunteering in sport
- Outdoor activities: mountain biking, hill walking and skiing
- Introduction to the theory of coaching and instructing various population groups
- Nutrition and wellbeing
- Exercise skills: including resistance training, spin classes, boxing and kettle bells
Please note: A Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check will be required to undertake any coaching placements/work experience which may be included in the course.
Entry requirements
- Three passes at National 4
- Any relevant level 4 course such as NQ Introduction to Sport and Fitness (Level 4), NQ Football Performance (Level 4) or NQ Sport and Fitness Activities (Level 4)
- We will consider your application if you can demonstrate an active interest in sport or fitness but have no formal qualifications
- You must be physically fit to undertake the practical elements of this course
If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.
