Course description

The HND Beauty Therapy course is a high-level course which runs over two years and is designed to provide you with knowledge of current beauty treatments. It is a well-established, recognised qualification understood and well-respected by employers in the occupational area.

Throughout your studies, you will develop the various skills and techniques required to deliver current, advanced beauty treatments using professional products ranges, which will ensure that you are employable and successful within the increasingly popular beauty sector.

During the HND Beauty Therapy course you will learn: 

Year 1 will introduce you to salon equipment, allow you to develop and enhance popular beauty skills, and carry out all standard treatments within beauty therapy including facial and body techniques utilising manual and electro-therapy techniques. You will also study anatomy and physiology to underpin knowledge and understanding of the beauty treatment benefits and aims.  

Year 2 will focus on developing competence in the use of advanced facial and body techniques, such as cosmetic peels, spa therapies and contemporary massage treatments. You will also study lifestyle advice for clients, promotional selling skills, product knowledge and business studies. 

During training you will initially work on fellow classmates and then progress to working on real clients. You will also be required to model for treatments yourself.

Entry requirements

  • Aged 16 years or over before course start date AND
  • NC/NQ Level 6 Beauty Care; OR
  • SVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy; OR
  • For those with no prior beauty qualifications - two Highers at C grade or above, one of which must be English, will be considered for direct entry.
  • If English is not your first language, you should have Higher ESOL or equivalent.

  • If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.
