Course description

This HNC Administration and IT with PDA in Medical Administration course is designed to provide an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills you will need to take up a medical secretarial or administrative post within the NHS. This course incorporates the HNC Administration and Information Technology as well as a Professional Development Award (PDA) in Medical Administration which has been designed in consultation with the NHS and is mapped to the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.

Please note that due to the impact of COVID-19, this course will be delivered via a blended learning approach - which may include limited face-to-face learning on campus combined with remote learning off-campus and digital learning approaches. If and when delivery is taking place on-campus, there will be reduced student numbers and physical distancing measures in place. If you require any support in learning digitally please inform the Course Leader or Student Support team.

  • Medical Terminology for Administration Staff

  • IT (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, presentation applications)

  • Work Placement (medical): one week in a hospital or GP surgery

  • Graded Unit exam.

Entry requirements

One Higher pass at band A-C in a relevant * academic subject and a selection of National 5 units or equivalent.

Relevant Foundation Apprenticeship qualification.

NQ in Medical Administration or Administration along with a reference from your current college.

Applications are welcome from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience.

An interview will be part of the selection process.

* relevant academic subjects include English, Administration, Business Management, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Studies or a Science subject.

If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.
