A Modern Apprenticeship (MA) is a qualification candidates gain whilst in full-time employment.

A typical Modern Apprenticeship (MA) consists of a Scottish Vocational Qualification, (SVQ), Core skills (Communication, Numeracy, Problem Solving, Working with Others, ICT) and either an NC, HNC or HND or combination of these.

Modern Apprenticeships are a combination of practical work based qualifications which are carried out in the workplace and time spent in College on either a full-time, block or day release basis depending on the discipline chosen.

Year One
Level 3 SVQ assessed in the workplace + HNC Applied Science day release

Year Two
Level 3 SVQ assessed in the workplace + HNC Applied Science day release

Year Three
Level 3 SVQ assessed in the workplace

  • Apprentices will also be certificated for all 5 core skills at intermediate 2
  • There is the Industrial Route and the Educational Route
  • The vacancies are within Pharmaceutical and drinks industries, schools, colleges and universities
  • All Modern Apprentices are employed full time from day one
  • Funding for a Modern Apprenticeships may be funded or part Funded through Skills Development Scotland

    Entry requirements

    One of the following:

  • Four NAT 5, including Maths and English and Higher Chemistry
  • Successful completion of a relevant access course or an appropriate group of National Qualification units
  • Applicants who do not meet this criteria but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered
  • Additional Requirements:

  • All successful applicants will sit an online aptitude test, which includes maths and technical subjects
  • All companies involved will then interview applicants of their choosing
  • Applicants may have to go through a medical prior to employment
