This Foundation Apprenticeship is a great way to get hands-on experience and gain a qualification at the same level as a Higher. Pupils will have the unique chance to develop skills and knowledge across a range of business topics, both in the classroom and alongside the experience of a valuable work placement with an employer.
What qualifications will pupils achieve?
On successful completion, pupils will achieve a Foundation Apprenticeship (Group Award) in Business Skills at SCQF Level 6 (the same level as a Higher), which includes:
• A National Progression Award in Business with Information Technology at SCQF Level 6 (6 units)
• Four work-based units from the SVQ3 in Business and Administration (SCQF Level 6)
Attendance
Pupils will attend Forth Valley College for six hours per week all year. There will also be a work placement for one day a week throughout the year and a lecturer from the College will visit them regularly to assess their competency of the work-based units.
(Please note that this course continues throughout periods of study leave from school and it is very important that pupils attend during these periods, except on exam days).
All travel to College and work placements is funded.

- Modern Apprenticeship - accelerated progression as a pupil completing the FA in Business Skills will have achieved a large proportion of the requirements for a Modern Apprenticeship in Business Admin Level 3

This qualification will give you the chance to develop the skills and knowledge required to enter a career in many business sectors of today's economy, such as: Marketing, Retail, Finance, Public Sector, Administration, IT, Human Resources and Supply Chain Management
Entry requirements
• When starting the FA, pupils should have achieved 2 NAT 5's in relevant subjects, such as English, Maths, Business Studies etc, and should working towards achieving one or two Highers over S5 and S6 and the school will need to confirm that you are ready to study at Higher level
• Pupils need to be reasonably confident in the use of Word Processing & Spreadsheets as the IT units within the framework are complex and will include creating and formatting complex spreasheets, using formulas and functions
• Given that the student will be studying Nat 5’s/Highers in addition to attending college to complete the FA, please confirm that the the student is able to juggle the demands of both college and school
