Course description

This course provides the underpinning knowledge to enable Health and Safety duties in the workplace to be undertaken more effectively. It is relevant for those who wish to progress as managers, supervisors and employee representatives with health and safety responsibilities. This comprehensive course, gives an excellent grounding in the fundamentals of occupational safety and health management. What You Study The qualification comprises of three separately assessed units: •Management of Health & Safety (NGC1) •Controlling Workplace Hazards (GC2) •Health & Safety Practical Application (GC3) The following elements are covered: •Management of Health and Safety (NGC1) •Foundation in Health and Safety •Plan •Do •Check •Act •Controlling Workplace Hazards (GC2) •Workplace Hazards •Transport Hazards •Musculo Skeletal Hazards •Work Equipment •Electrical Safety •Fire Safety •Chemical and Biological Hazards •Physical and Psychological Hazards •Health & Safety Practical Application (GC3) Duration and Attendance The course is currently offered on a day-release, block release or e-learning basis. Day Release: One day a week over a period of twelve weeks. Block release: One weeks attendance with a short break before attending for a further week and two days. Exams: Examinations are held at the course providers premises, the practical element is carried out by the student at their own work premises. The exams comprise of two 2-hour written papers and a practical assessment that involves carrying out an inspection of the student’s workplace and the preparation of a management report. Having listened to our day release students and responding to their request to remove the pressure of multiple exams on one day. We are pleased to announce our new split exam format. Day release candidates will complete the NGC1 unit during the first five weeks then have a study break of two weeks then sit the NGC1 exam, students will then continue with the GC2 unit sitting the GC2 exam at the end of the full course and submitting their practical within fourteen days of the GC2 exam. Due to time constraints block release students will sit the NGC1 and GC2 exams on the same day approximately one week after the classroom attendance. There are no entry requirements although candidates are required to write a short report, requiring a degree of written communication skills.
