Course description

This course is designed to prepare students for a career in the fashion, freelance and occasion make up artistry industry. Focused on developing the creativity and artistry of our learners, this HNC covers a range of practical and supporting skills and is delivered by experienced lecturers currently working in the industry. With a strong emphasis on hair skills as well as makeup, this award is designed to give students all the skills they need to work confidently in this exciting and growing industry.

Learning outcome

Students may wish to progress to industry, begin their own freelance businesses or continue their studies by applying for our HND Make Up Artistry for TV, Film and Theatre. For students also interested in SFX, the option to complete a single paid unit in SFX Skills may be offered alongside your HNC studies.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants must have either a qualification at SCQF level 6 (such as Higher, NC or vocational qualifications) or provable previous relevant experience such as work / courses / qualifications in Make Up Artistry, Hairdressing, Beauty and Art/Design. 
  • Demonstrable computer skills would be considered advantageous but are not essential 

Please note - all students who accept a place on this course are required to buy a makeup kit to support their studies. The price may vary, but is usually around £200 and must be purchased in time for the beginning of your studies. The kit contains a lot of specialist items for the units we study and we negotiate discounts with suppliers to get you the best deal possible. We also request a studio fee from each student which contributes towards workshops, shared items, photography and materials; this is £150 for the 24/25 year. We encourage students to check their eligibility for student loans from SAAS and apply early for support.
