Course description

To apply for a place on the course students must submit an external course application through the Edinburgh college website www.edinburghcollege.ac.uk This COSCA certificate is made up of 4 modules and provides a theoretical and practical framework for people in a range of helping roles. You will develop the ability to establish a safe, trusting helping relationship with another person by becoming a Reflective Practitioner. You are asked to reflect on your own processes and experiences, and how these have shaped the person that you are now. You will also develop awareness of how your own qualities, values, attitudes and personality affect how you are within helping relationships. At interview you will be expected to: Explore your reasons for choosing to embark on the course at this time in life To describe and discuss in detail a specific example of helping and supporting someone emotionally To explore and identify your own personal skills and qualities relevant to the COSCA training To discuss a time in your own personal life when you went through a difficult process of change and identify the learning you took from that process. You will come to College for individual skills development meetings outside the weekly session. The full COSCA course takes 15 months to complete, each module runs between 9 & 12 weeks. The course is run three times during the academic year September/December and March each class last for 3 hours. , the part time option will be held one morning a week between 9.15am & 12.15pm, the evening option will be held on either a Tuesday or Thursday evening between 5.30pm & 8.30pm Applications for the September and December intakes are accepted between April and November, March applications are accepted between November and March. If the occurrence you have applied for is oversubscribed the admissions team will contact you to discuss enrolling on the next available intake
