SQA Award in First Aid at Work @ SCQF Level 6

Course description

• Provide emergency first aid at work
• Administer first aid to a casualty with:
  • injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
  • chest injuries
  • burns and scalds
  • eye injuries
  • sudden poisoning
  • anaphylactic shock
• Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)
• Understand the role of the first-aider including reference to:
  • the importance of preventing cross infection
  • the need for recording incidents and actions
  • use of available equipment
• Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation including the use of an AED
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock 
• Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)

This SQA approved 3-day course complies with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.Candidates are trained to a standard where they can administer basic First Aid in the workplace until more qualified help arrives.On successful completion of the course and final assessment, the delegate will receive the SQA approved, nationally recognised First Aid at Work Certificate. This is valid for 3 years, however the SQA recommends that first aiders undertake annual first aid update training. All delegates receive a course pack including a first aid manual.**If you require First Aid for Forestry please advise at time of booking**This course is a very practical course so you must be able to get up and down from the floor. Due to the nature of regulated first aid assessment, there will be a requirement to will work in very close proximity with others.
