This course is designed to raise the candidates awareness of some of the most common health conditions among older people in the UK. They will explore arthritis, stroke, dementia, Parkinsons disease, and sensory loss (both hearing and visual impairments).Candidates will examine the signs, symptoms, risk factors and treatment options for each one. They will also look at a range of strategies ; some of which they can put into practice themselves ; that can help to improve the quality of life of someone living with one or a number of these conditions. It has relevance to all types of health-care settings, including care homes, hospitals and domiciliary care.This course is aimed at anybody who wishes to improve their knowledge and understanding of common health conditions. It will particularly appeal to individuals who have a professional or personal interest in arthritis care, stroke, dementia, Parkinsons disease and sensory loss awareness. It will also appeal to organisations within the health and social care sector that provide support to individuals with conditions such as these. It has relevance to all types of health-care settings, including care homes, hospitals and domiciliary care.

Learning outcome

Learners will be able to further their own continuous professional development, which may improve their career prospects, or allow them to progress on to further qualifications such as courses in health and social care or related subjects.
