Course description
This programme seeks to combine the development of practical skills with underpinning knowledge to enable successful candidates to develop and sustain a career in the engineering industry or to study at higher level.
This award is designed for suitably qualified school leavers or mature learners who have an interest in engineering and wish to gain employment in the engineering industry as a Mechanical Engineering Technician or Engineering Maintenance Technician. Successful completion of the award also provides a sound foundation for anyone who wishes to study engineering at higher level.
Learning outcome
Moving into a modern apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, trainee fitter position as a modern apprentice or progression to additional FE or HE courses as above.
Successful completion could allow progression on to the Wind Turbine Technician Course, Modern Apprenticeship, full time/part time HNC/Diploma course in electrical engineering.
Entry requirements
One of the following: 4 National 5s at Grade B or above or the equivalent at standard grades. Alternatively successful completion of the Engineering Fabrication & Welding - NC at SCQF level 5 or a related engineering NC at level 5. Entry may be possible for mature students depending on prior skills and knowledge. You will be required to attend an Information and Interview Session with the course tutor prior to being offered a place on the course.
