Course description

The topics studied will include Computer Games Design and Development, Website Design, Graphics and Development.   Time will also be spent developing skills in Digital Forensics, Ethical Hacking, Computer Programming and Data Security as well as developing appropriate numeracy and communication skills that are paramount in todays working ICT society. The course is designed by completing National Progression Awards such as Computer Games Development and Web Design amongst others.

This course introduces learners to several areas of computing including Computer Game Design, Website Design, Computer Support, Computer Software Applications and provides a good basis to progress onto a more advanced level 6 qualification or to gain employment as a junior IT trainee.   This programme is aimed at learners who have chosen a career in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).  The programme will be delivered through hybrid learning and several of the topics will be taught in computer labs. The programme is aimed mainly at school leavers with the appropriate entry criteria. However, it also provides an opportunity for adult learners to study recognised ICT qualifications SCQF level 5.  The qualification has the potential to prepare learners for employment in the ICT sector.

Learning outcome

This programme will give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques in software development and ICT support, as well as the personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life in the field of computing.Career options would be at a trainee or entry-level post in areas such as Website Development, Computer Technician, Help Desk Technician & Support Technician.

Completion of the programme may lead to progression to the Computing at SCQF Level 6 programme.

Entry requirements

  • 5 Standard Grades at 4 or above; 5 Intermediate 1 awards; 5 National 4 awards 
  • Successful completion of the Certificate in Computing (SCCP) course and a satisfactory internal reference;  
  • Entry may be possible for mature students depending on their prior knowledge and experience.
Applicants may be invited to attend an Information and Interview Session prior to being offered a place on the course. If you are currently studying at the College, you will also require a positive Progressing Learner Reference.
