Course description

Depending on the candidates current qualifications they may NOT be required to attend College, for example if a College full-time Motor Vehicle Course has been completed and achieved at College.If the candidate is required to achieve the SCQF Level 5 (underpinning knowledge) in Motor Vehicle then some College attendance will be required to be able to achieve this element of the Modern Apprenticeship.Alongside any required College attendance an assessor will attend the work place on a regular basis. Depending on the nature of each assessment to be carried out, the duration of how long the assessor will be with each candidate will vary on each visit.The course is structured around a selection of both knowledge and skill based practical Motor Vehicle Engineering Units with a core skills programme.The Course involves the study of light vehicle construction and rountine maintenance, operation principles of light vehicle engines, typres, brakes, steering and suspension systems, transmission systems and electrical and electronic systems within structured practical workshop and classroom theory.

Modern Apprenticeships are a great way of gaining skills, qualifications and experience and starting a career without having to study full-time. You can be earning whilst you are learning! This is an opportunity to work towards an industry recognised qualification whilst you are learning on the job and its a great way to kick-start your career. Vehicle Maintenance and Repair skills are essential to the effective and efficient performance of organisations across this sector and once you have completed your Modern Apprenticeship you will have shown that you have the ability, the work skills and the determination to succeed.

Learning outcome

Once an SCQF Level 5 has been achieved, progression can be made on to SCQF level 7 which can be completed in 1 year.

Entry requirements

You must be in full-time employment and aged 16 years or over. We recommend that candidates should have achieved as a minimum standard grades at general level in English and Maths. Candidates should be well presented, committed to the Modern Apprenticeship and be able to complete.
