Course description

This course will give you a technical grounding in Engineering Principles, Material Selection, Statics and Strength of Materials, Dynamics, Thermofluids, Pneumatics and Hydraulics, CNC, CAD for Engineers, Programmable Logic Controls and more.The course is nationally recognised as the qualification needed by technicians working within the Mechanical sector.

This award is designed for individuals with acceptable qualifications or mature learners who upon completion wish to enter the engineering and service industries or the renewable energy sector at technician level. This programme will develop your skills, confidence and awareness of Mechanical Engineering and is a great opportunity to progress from a modern apprenticeship, level 6 course, Foundation Apprenticeship or for adult learners who wish to enhance their knowledge of the subject area or are looking for progresion in their current industry. This course will also develop your study skills as a learner.

Learning outcome

Employment within any part of the engineering and renewables sectors.

6 units are studied per year to a total of 12 units to complete the course. However for progression to HND or beyond; 15 units would be required. We can arrange the additional 3 units to be studied over the two years if required. But this will require additional study time/classes.

Entry requirements

One of the following: 2 Highers (one must be a maths or physics-related higher), National Certificate Course in Engineering at SCQF level 6 or equivalent or suitable skills in a related area. Entry may still be possible for mature students depending on prior skills and knowledge.   You will be required to attend an information and interview session with the course tutor prior to being offered a place on the course.   If you are currently studying at the college, you will also require a positive progressing learner reference.
