Course description
This is a work-based qualification and all evidence produced must be in relation to the individual's job role and responsibility. The award is made up of six units, four of which are mandatory. Mandatory units: Support Relationships in the Play Environment; Work with Children and Young People to Create Play Spaces and Support Freely Chosen, Self-Directed Play; Contribute to the Health, Safety, Security and Welfare of Children and Young People Using the Play Environment; Help to Improve Your Own Practice and the Work of Your Playwork Team. In addition to the above, two further units must be chosen from a number of optional units. A list of optional units is available via link https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/files_ccc/PlayworkL6GP1G23Structure.doc This qualification is suitable for: • learners who may have just left school • individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification • employees who wish to obtain short continuing professional development courses Assessed through reflective reports and observations within an e-portfolio. Recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for registration requirements.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be in continuous employment in a Children and Young People setting for a minimum of 16 hours per week (paid or voluntary) with a minimum of 3 months experience. Individuals must have a sound understanding of current guidance and frameworks, legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the work setting. Selection for the course will be by interview.
