This course is an ideal first step towards a career in the Construction Industry. This practical course will allow you to explore a variety of disciplines in our industry standard workshops, including woodworking, painting & decorating and tiling.
Initially classroom-based, after Christmas this becomes a hands-on and practical course where you'll gain experience working with a variety of hand tools and assorted materials. You'll discover how to create a variety of paint effects and practice how to mix different colours to match given paint samples. You'll discover how to fix tiles to pre-prepared walls and floors.
This course also contains a focus on employability skills. You'll develop working practices that will enhance your job prospects including timekeeping, health & safety awareness and team working. You'll learn self-evaluation skills and how to adapt your performance in response to feedback.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements you should be interested in a career in the construction industry, who have a reasonable level of numeracy and are capable of working at SCQF level 5
This course would suit students with good communication skills who are willing to work as part of a team. You should be able to act on instructions and be committed to working in a manner that supports health and safety at work.
