Course description
HNC Healthcare Practice is the new name for the HNC Care and Administrative Practice course.
This course is suitable if you want to pursue a career in nursing and other health-related fields. It combines the required academic knowledge with the skills and competencies gained from a clinical placement within the NHS. This qualification is also suitable if you want to work as a Health Care Support Worker.
Some of the units you will study are:-
- Clinical Skills for Care Practitioners.
- Professional Standards for Care Practitioners.
- Safe Working Practice for Care.
- The Human Body in Health and Illness.
- Sociology and Health in Scotland.
- Graded unit.

Continuing Study
Successful completion may allow you to progress to a Degree programme in Nursing, Paramedic Science and Allied Health Professions. Some students may access Year 2 of the Nursing Degree at the University of the West of Scotland or Glasgow Caledonian University. Progression is dependent on a satisfactory PVG check.
Entry requirements
- Two Highers at Grade C or above including English; OR
- One Higher plus Foundation Apprenticeship in SVQ Social Services & Healthcare; OR
- SQA National Units at SCQF Level 6 in a related subject; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
