The demands of our global, data-intensive, knowledge-based economy is creating a skills gap and making now the perfect time to gain the skills necessary to meet demand. City of Glasgow's HNC Software Development course is designed to give you the knowledge and expertise to fill this gap.
This hands-on course will allow you to study towards an up-to-date qualification, covering many of the skills that are in high demand for a range of different careers in the software development/programming sector of the computer industry. These include developing skills in C# and Java, System Design, Android Development, XML, Event Driven Programming, Databases and Project Management.
This stimulating, learner-focused programme will be delivered to you by our highly professional teaching staff with significant software development experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.
This course will prepare you for either employment in a junior developer role within the IT Industry or progression to HND Software Development second year. Also, this course may provide you with the entry requirements to a wide range of university courses in computing.
On successful completion of the course, you will receive an HNC Computing / HNC Computing: Software Development qualification.
This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7.

Continuing Study
You have an opportunity to continue studying with us, progressing on to HND Software Development 2nd year as long as you meet the entry requirements - 15 credits, very good attendance in HNC and a very good reference from your lecturers.
Entry requirements
- One Higher at Grade C or above in a relevant* subject AND two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR
- National Qualification at SCQF level 6 in a relevant subject (such as Digital Media Computing, Computing: Technical Support or Software Development); OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
* relevant subjects include Business Studies, Chemistry, Computing, English, History, Information Systems, Mathematics or Physics.
